Step 1: Survey & Quotation

First step with any stairlift installation was to visit the property and assess both the home and the user to ensure they get the right stairlift for their needs. We at Ability Assist cannot emphasise enough how important this step is, we see it all too often where others have missed or overlooked such important factors during their quotation stage, and the customer end up with an unsuitable stairlift.

From the off, this job seemed straightforward enough, a wide and straight staircase, with power nearby, albeit the door at the bottom which was infrequently used. No matter the frequency of this doorway being in use, we had to ensure that the stairlift was to allow sufficient clearance and not block off any access or exit points, as well as not being a tripping hazard for anyone. This is where the Easy Hinge comes in.

The Easy Hinge, available on the Handicare 1100 Straight Stairlift model, is a manually folding hinge fitted to the lower section of the stairlift rail. When this rail is folded up, this allows full, unobstructed access to any doorways or passageways situated at the bottom of the stairs. The continuous charging found on the Handicare 1100 also allows the Stairlift itself to be parked up a few steps, out of the way. Whenever the user needs to use the stairlift, either themselves, or a family member can fold down the Easy Hinge, and use the stairlift as normal.

Step 2: Decision Time

The customer in this case kept the lift as simple as possible, they opted for the Handicare 1100 with a Manually Swivel operated Style Seat, a Manually Operated Footrest fold, and the Easy Hinge. A quick turnaround was on the cards with us hoping to have this lift installed within a couple of days from quote acceptance and deposit being taken.

Step 3: Installation Day

Arriving nice and early in Porthcawl, and within a few days of the stairlift sale, we were ready to get the stairlift installed neatly and efficiently, and ensure our customer could navigate upstairs easily and pain free.

The Easy Hinge rail was assembled and positioned roughly in place, and the positioning was perfect in regards to the doorway at the bottom. We were very happy so far.

We proceeded with loading the stairlift carriage, and assembling the lift itself, as well as taking our time in running the power supply cable from the mains, to the rail, leaving it as visually appealing as possible.

Final positioning was carried out to ensure sufficient clearances, and then final checks were completed.

The stairlift moved and stopped safely upon command, all safety features were working, and the Style Seat was Manually Swivelling at the top as smoothly as ever to ensure the customer could get on and off safely. Further checks were carried out on the Easy Hinge, and we were ready to demonstrate and sign over to the customer.

A full and comprehensive Demo & Handover was carried out, with the customer grasping the easy operation in no time. They were over the moon with how smooth the rack-free rail was, and how easy the Easy Hinge was to operate.
