This Curved Stairlift installation in Talgarth, South Powys, involved the whole team at Ability Assist working together, and demonstrated fully why we are the number 1 choice for stairlift installations across Powys and Mid Wales, alongside supplying South and West Wales also.
Overview:
From initial contact, we found out that the customer had unfortunately been stuck upstairs for a number of weeks. She had previously got stranded on the stairs, and lost all confidence in navigating up and down the stairs alone.
This naturally had the whole team here at Ability Assist wanting to get a solution in place as swiftly as possible, we were fully aware that any extra days of waiting would only mean the customer being stuck upstairs for longer than necessary.
Step 1: Quotation & Stairlift Survey
As with any stairlift installation, it was vitally important for us to visit the property, and assess the stairs and the customer to ensure they were getting the correct lift for their needs.
Access to the property was looking difficult on this one, with working around family members and work commitments. We pulled out all the stops and agreed on an evening visit instead of waiting a few extra days for a daytime visit. Considering that the customer was stuck upstairs, this is the least we could do as a trusted company to minimise any lead time. We will not make someone wait longer than necessary to simply navigate around their own home.
A full in-depth survey was carried out, and a free, no-obligation quotation left on site for the customer to decide in their own time. Absolutely no pressure off us at Ability Assist, and the customer had a choice of two stairlifts, with two different lead times to decide on in their own time.
Step 2: Decision Time
The customer decided to opt for a Handicare Freecurve Curved Stairlift, which carried the benefit of minimal production time compared to most curved stairlifts out there. They had already had an estimate of 6 weeks lead time from another company.
Our goal was to get this Stairlift installed in less than 10 working days from date of purchase.
The Handicare Freecurve was ordered with the Classic Seat, in a lovely Beige colour that blends in wherever it is installed. There was no need for any powered options on this one, due to the lovely overrun onto the upper landing, taking the customer away from the staircase to facilitate their transfers. This made things safer for the customer, whilst also saving money.
Step 3: Installation Day
The goal was 10 working days…we got it done in 9!
Arriving nice and early, working around family members and their own work commitments, we were already looking forward to seeing the customer navigate downstairs for the first time in weeks.
A quick cup of coffee before starting and then we got on with the task at hand, let’s get our customer downstairs safely.

The rail went in smoothly, with the aid of some new products and design changes from Handicare Stairlifts, including the Handiclamp and the Handiblock!

The Carriage and Classic Seat went on next, and the stairlift was taking shape nicely.
The charger got wired up swiftly, taking pride in our work and having as little wiring in sight as possible.
Final measurements and fixing into place was completed, ensuring this stairlift went in perfectly to specification, and we were very happy and excited for the customers first go!
Step 4: Demonstration & Handover
One final step left before heading home after a long day. It was time to give the customer a full Demonstration & Handover and seeing a smile on their face from being stuck upstairs for weeks on end.
The incredibly easy to use Freecurve Stairlift with it’s Classic Seat was mastered in no time. The customer grasped the usage of the stairlift immediately and was navigating both up and down stairs safely, with no additional assistance.
And of course the whole family wanted a go also, so off they went on their travels, putting the stairlift through it’s paces.
There was still plenty of space left on the stairs for able-bodied family members to physically walk up the stairs, and the overrun at the top meant that the stairlift was away from the narrow top step to make things even easier.
Happy Customer and Happy Family, which meant that we at Ability Assist were happy also!
